Camera technology & increased enforcement would ensure matters are taken seriously. 70 > 80 will make very little (i.e. NIL) difference to someone standing in the wrong place on the hard shoulder! Enforcement on “over 80s” and improvements in automotive technology will work towards containing any CO2 increases brought about by the 10mph increase. And I’m afraid motorway shunts are an inevitable by product of humans travelling in cocoons at any speed - we were simply not built for that purpose, especially when you factor-in impatience & the vast array of modern day distractions! less

The 10 mph increase would amount to around 17% increase in fuel consumption and emissions, as most cars are built to be most efficient at around 50 mph - the 10 mph increase is proven to make a significant difference. It will take years and years for car manufacturers to reduce the emissions of their cars by 17%!!! It will instantly undo the work of the car industry in reducing emissions that has taken over 10 years. Do you think that is logical for the "greenest government ever"?! less
